Freeforms

Freeforms, also known as Live Action Roleplays (or LARPs), are the 'other blue meat' of roleplaying.

Auto Da Fe

sabbat

By Joe McNamara

The Sabbat Inquisition has come for you. In armored cars with tinted windows, driven by ghouls and loaded down with sacred texts and wooden stakes, they’ve come to judge the Children of Caine. Their mandate is divine, and there are no secrets from them.

The innocent have nothing to fear from the Inquisition. Unfortunately, in the vampiric sect known as the Sabbat, no-one is truly innocent. Whether it's envy, disloyalty, murder, heresy or betraying the sect, everyone has something to hide. You are all guilty and, by sunrise, one of you will burn.

A 16-player freeform about guilt, loyalty and bearing false witness.

Children of the Revolution

By Renee, Fi McConachie and Aveline

"Do you hear the people sing
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again"

Montaigne is a country bled dry through its costly war with Castille. Healthy men and women are conscripted to fight and die on foreign soil, leaving too few people to work the farms. Food shortages are rife and high taxes mean many go hungry. With Castillian vessels blocking the ports, even basic staples are hard to find in the markets of both towns and cities. Only the aristocracy, with their money, power and magic are able to find enough to eat and live well. The dispossessed peasantry are flocking to the cities, angry and hungry.

King Leon seems to rule by whim and madness, not even his closest advisors know what the future holds.

A group of idealistic Montaigne revolutionaries are searching for a better world.

"Will you join in our crusade
Who will be strong and stand with me
Beyond the barricades is there a world you long to see
Then join in the fight which will give you the right to be free"

A one session 7th Sea multiform for ten young commoners filled with revolutionary spirit.

With greatful thanks to Aveline for her assistance as Chief Political Advisor and Speech Writer.

The Heron's Revenge

heron

By Stacey L Payne

Twenty years ago, the Court of Herons could not have seen the calamity which would befall it when the then-Emperor made the choice to unify two worlds — a feat that had not been accomplished ever before — to eliminate a common enemy.

The seers — for perhaps the first time in living memory — were wrong.

What followed was the grotesque dance of war — at first the people were standing on the same ground as they faced the warlord and his minions. Then came a terrible revelation: people of the Otherland discovered that they were dying, in this dimension bereft of their long life — their sadness soon turned to resentment.

And that inevitably turned to hate. This hate only fuelled the warlord’s agenda, propelling him leagues toward victory as he used this rift between peoples to gather followers with false promises and empty hope.

The war surged over the city, touched all, ruined all.

Now, from the countless that stood strong in the Heron’s Court, only two remain of that number. For the rest, their graves stand as memorial to all that was and all that should have been.

Project Eden

By Mik

Following the nuclear holocaust of 1986, which wiped out the majority of the USA, Europe, Russia and Asia, the survivors enacted Project Eden, in the hopes of saving the human race. Huge biodomes were constructed and the slow process of reclaiming the outside began. Within the biodomes, a semblance of normality strives to be maintained — although with each biodome capable of supporting only five thousand people, it has become slightly fractious.

Some of the biodomes are capable of communication and sometimes people brave the radioactive wastelands to travel between two or more domes, although the domes off the coast have not been heard from since the bombs fell.

Now, nearly thirty years since then, a message was received from biodome Island 12. The news coming from Island 12 is worrying and a council meeting has been convened to discuss the problem.

A single session freeform for 15 players, set in a world where 80s fashions never died, just got worn a lot longer than could have been practical. Costuming in 80s workwear and 80s hair styles encouraged.

Star Explorers

By Mike Walker

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

— From a book by Marianne Williamson

In the year 2442, a new surge of superpowered beings emerges, unmatched in galactic history since the turmoil of the early twenty-first century. Some regard these new beings as saviors; others hunt them down as dangerous freaks. Computer Lass (teen superheroine and heiress), creates the Star Explorers, a youth group and safe haven for beings such as herself. The Star Explorers come to the aid of civilisations in need while exploring the outer frontiers of space.

On a time travel trip back to the year 2008, a watershed moment arrives. Do they dare to forge their own destiny, or must they adhere to the tragedy they believe must come?

A look at friendship, consequences, and the realisation of potential...

UNDEADWOOD

By Xole and Andrew

Out in the badlands of Limbo is the little ghost-town of Undeadwood, population 38 35 31 30. Prospectors found soulgold here, startin' a Rush. After these hardy souls came the suppliers, the taverners, the gamblers, the gunmen and the whores. Not to mention them inscrutable yeller Celestials. And now that the tattered camp has grown up a town, the United States of Stygia is lookin' to incorporate Undeadwood and steal its wealth through taxes and bribes.

The free spirits of Undeadwood would surely prefer to spend their hard-won soulgold on whores, whisky and cards, but the Stygians from Back West are not Undeadwood's only problem. The local Manitou spirit-tribes want their afterlife back, thanks. And perhaps, only the US cavalry can fight them off...

A freeform for 30 Ectoplasmic Old West Gold Rush cliches: mad prospectors, Texas Ladies' Men, undead agents, revenant duelists, poltergeist gamblers and vampiric whores.

The Wake

by Travis Hall

The Nyngan region of central New South Wales has seen hard times in recent years. Though some other areas have fared worse, Australia’s worst drought in living memory has devastated many farms here.

In amongst the barren fields, though, remains one farm where the wheat still grows healthy and golden. A house too empty for too long is filled with people. Owner Trevor Sheppard had looked forward to seeing scattered family and friends again. He just wishes this reunion could have been under better circumstances.

The Sheppard family have gathered to say farewell to a loved one, lost far too soon. It isn’t the first such gathering in recent days. They know it won’t be the last either. But this is the one when nobody can tell them why.

A murder mystery with a supernatural twist for 15 relatives, friends and unexpected visitors.
