Gravois-Moreau to Defy Riverboat Curse!
A Masked, Post-Mardi Gras Soiree to be Held for Society's Elite Aboard the River Dancer
New Orleans, Mar. 3. — Among guests expected to attend this prestigious and much speculated upon event, are Martin Behrman, Mayor of New Orleans; prominent English banker, Charles Remington; socialite Lady Estelle Fontaine and world renowned author Sherwood Anderson. They are expected to mix with some of the most illustrious personages of New Orleans high society, although as usual, M. Xavier Gravois-Moreau is keeping as silent as the grave as to the details of the guest list.
And yet, whomsoever shall receive the gilt invitation to don mask and costume upon the eve of Mardi Gras, perhaps should well consider a refusal! It could be said that they may be taking their very lives in their own hands in stepping aboard the "River Dancer" to join the festivities. For this vessel has a dark history, seemingly to be ignored by M. Gravois-Moreau!
Plagued in the hey day of riverboats with dark rumours and scandal - even murder! - the River Dancer sloughed her past, underwent a complete refitting and again took her place as the Queen of Riverboats some 5 years ago. Then on her first voyage she vanished, only to be found months later adrift upon the river with not a soul left aboard. Salvagers found neither drop of blood, nor scrap of clothing to explain the disappearance — an event to rival the Marie Celeste!
So, to the elite of New Orleans, I ask: Shall you dare to face your destiny?
